Breast reconstruction surgery

Breast reconstruction surgery, performs by using various techniques to have a normal size and shape of breast. During this surgery, some parts of breast tissue is removed which is called lumpectomy and in this way, breast will have better shape. If lumpectomy performs in lower or middle of the breast, surgeons performs more procedures on the breast and then, desirable results will achieved.

If you have had cancer or tumors hadn’t removed completely, surgeons performs mastectomy.

There are steps to perform breast reconstruction surgery.

• First step. Anesthesia

Anesthesia drugs are prescribed for patient’s easiness. IV Sedation and general anesthesia, are main choices. Dr. Nadafkermani chooses the best one.

• Second step. Flap technique

This step is used to replace muscles, fat and skin to create prominence on the breast. This technique includes following types:

• Tram flap: surgeons use from muscles, fat and skin of abdomen to reconstruct the breast.
• Latissimus dorsi flap: surgeons use muscles, fat and skin of the back to reconstruct the breast.
• Third step. Healthy skin is stretched and cover for implant is created.
• Fourth step. Implants are placed to create prominence of the breast.
• Fifth step. Skin graft with other techniques to create nipple and areola.

Important considerations

Breast reconstruction is as a new breast, but different result. You should make decision that want to perform this surgery or not, this surgery is as your benefit or not.

After performing this surgery, incisions remains of reconstruction or mastectomy on the breast. There are some risks such as infection, bleeding, bad reconstruction or risks of anesthesia.
