Cleft palate
A cleft is a gap or split in the upper lip or roof of the mouth (palate).
Cleft palate depends on different factors such as environmental factors, genetics, stress and psychological factors.
Palate is created due to the abnormal space in upper lip.
Now, here we consider these different factors.
- Genetic factors
Statistics show that, 33 to 37 % of cleft palate is related to this factor.
- Environmental factors
Factors such as, diabetes, infection diseases, hyperthyroidism and using some drugs can affect on the cleft. If a woman smoke during her pregnancy, there is risk of hypoxia for her baby.
- Psychological factors
Damages, stress or anxiety have considerable effects on creating cleft palate.
Diagnosis of cleft palate
Diagnosis of this problem is usually easy. This cleft creates inside mouth of the children. Knowing location of the cleft is important. Dr. Nadafkermani treats cleft palate based on the type of problem.
